Fish pie

O ne of the great mysteries of life is how it comes to pass that, despite one incorporating two substantial fillets of haddock (one fresh, one peat-smoked) yet only one modest-sized boiled egg into a fish pie, seemingly every forkful of the resulting delicacy involves boiled egg, with the fish nowhere to be found.
Theories?
