I’m still giggling about how the LHC switch-on became a triumph of live radio broadcasting. Andy Marr did a great job of thinking up things to say to fill the odd kerfuffle, but my favourite bit was his partner in conversation (an Ulsterman, of course) contributing the insight ‘Excuse me, I’m just going to drink some champagne.’. So there they all are, boffins down a hole, drinking and operating machinery. I do hope they don’t have an asciident.
I wonder if 15 billion years ago a group of beings built a Large Hadron Collider which failed to work. Just as one was saying “Ah well it’s back to the drawing b——”
