Evel Knievel returns

In a move surely intended to spread word-of-mouth via blog postings, online ‘boys’ stuff’ retailers Firebox have this morning sent out a marketing email gushing about the Evel Knievel stunt cycle, back in stock after… oooh… about twenty-five years.

That worked, then.

It’s worth watching the video, if only to see just how high the thing doesn’t jump. This is in stark contrast to one’s memory of how it behaved – which is clearly filtered through a layer of childhood excitement and imagination. I’ve a certain sense of ennui about that.

  1. I was about to say “fantastic, now all we need is somebody to bring back Tin Can Alley”. But then I found it for 7.50 (that’s less than two pints of Stella!) in Argos.
So now I’m looking through the diary for the next nephew to have a birthday.

  2. Oooh, Tin Can Alley. I can remember the adverts, but never actually saw one. In contrast, I can remember playing with Stop Boris and Big Trak. Both were, I thought, rather disappointing – much more impressive was my neighbour’s punch-card programmed car. They should bring those back as a teaching aid, actually.
