OK, so it’s now sufficiently official that it made the Guardian yesterday: ITV is launching a new children’s channel on Freeview, earlyish next year.
Current intelligence is that there’s limited scope for new commissions, for a while at least, but doubtless there’ll be some. I might suggest they’ll likely all be dramas, but that would just be a moan without, necessarily, any substance.
I have a slight bit of inside info as I had a chat with a person involved at lunch today. You’re right – all repeats and acquisitions to begin with, but with the possibility of some commissions once it’s proved itself.
And it all has to run out of the existing CITV budget.
Soooo… unless there’s a marked change in the advertising revenue between the new channel and the existing CITV, there’ll actually be less money floating around?
Gee, there’s a thought that fills me with joy.
“Dear BBC, please find enclosed my current CV…”

Yep, I can remember Allsorts well. In fact, I think I have one episode on tape somewhere…
What will the channels hours be?
Well, this is bizarre. Quite why anybody would ask such questions here, I’m not sure… but then, this page does appear to be the top Google hit for ‘CITV Channel.’ I’m not sure which I find most disturbing.
