Oh. OK. So… you can trim edit in iMovie. How did I manage to not know that before? Or was this only added with iLife 6?

You’ve always been able to trim, but you only see the sliders if you mouse over them.
Personally, I find hitting command-T to split clips then deleting or putting them back on the shelf is more natural in iMovie.
If you think of iMovie as film editing, it makes a lot more sense – the way a clip vanishes from the shelf when it’s in the timeline and so on.
